33 bDevelopments in cancer treatment and care have dramatically improved survival for cancer patients, allowing them to live longer, fuller lives. However, just as these treatments are necessary to eradicate cancer, they can also negatively impact other organ systems, including the cardiovascular system. The mission of the Thalheimer Center for Cardio-Oncology is to relentlessly advance the cardiovascular health in our cancer patients and survivors, and envision a world of longer, healthier lives. Our diverse team of clinicians, physician-scientists, researchers, and trainees within the Cardio-Oncology community at Penn allow us to offer specialized, state-of-the-art cardiovascular care for cancer patients and survivors. Located in Philadelphia, our institution is one of the few in the nation that brings together specialists in both cardiology and oncology to treat and protect your heart prior to, during, and after cancer treatment. For over 15 years, our multidisciplinary team has been caring for cancer patients and survivors. Today, it is possible to find a doctor with a specialty in Cardio-Oncology at multiple Penn Medicine locations. Our cardiologists work closely with the oncologists of the Abramson Cancer Center to provide seamless, integrated care.
2 256Under the leadership of the Thalheimer Center's Director, Dr. Bonnie Ky, MD, MSCE, the Thalheimer Center is driven by core values of excellence; patient-centeredness; innovation; collaboration; and inclusivity. We are tightly aligned with the Abramson Cancer Center's mission to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer, our vision is to advance rigorous, impactful, and actionable science; provide highly accessible, empathic, exceptional patient care; and build the next generation of physicians, scientists, and care providers.
